A Fantastic Zegama Debut for Gian
The Zegama Aizkorri mountain marathon is one of the most competitive trail running races in the calendar, attracting the best marathon runners in the world. As part of the Golden Trail World Series, it is also an essential event at which to accumulate points in those rankings. This past weekend marked Gian’s first appearance here, with an amazing 14th place result.
Notoriously tough and technical, but also lined with passionate crowds that carry the runner forward, Zegama 2024 did not disappoint. In a stacked field, Gian maintained himself in the top 20 throughout, soaking up the atmosphere and progressing gradually during the day.

After a hard fought race of 42 km with c. 2700m of ascent through the Basque hills, Gian secured 14th position and a brilliant first appearance at this iconic race. A brilliant performance in Gian’s first Golden Trail World Series event of the year.
