Using Nduranz to Achieve a Top 10 at OCC and Course Record at Kullamannen by UTMB Seventh Seal
Nduranz became the official fuelling partner of the Elite Trail Team at the start of 2025. In the months prior, ETT athletes tested their products thoroughly and were fuelling with Nduranz for some key 2024 races. An example is Kris, who consumed Nduranz Nrgy Unit gels during the UTMB OCC in August (where he secured 6th place) and the Kullamannen by UTMB Seventh Seal 50k in November (where he won and set a new course record).
As Kris explains: ‘I first was introduced to Nduranz products by Rebecca and Doug in Spring 2024. I liked that they offered an Informed Sport batch tested product that is based on the latest sports science. My favourite is the Unflavoured Nrgy Unit gel with 45g of carbohydrates. It's got a mix of glucose and fructose, some added electrolytes, and the flavour is neutral (which helps a lot in long races!). I ended up buying lots of them to use through the summer. It helped that they are very good value for money given the amount of carbohydrates per serving, and are very easy to eat, even at high intensity. They became the foundation for my race day fuelling.’
Building up to the OCC, ETT high performance dietitian Rebecca worked closely with Kris to help increase his carbohydrate intake over a few months. The goal was to start taking more in during his longer runs, as well as taking on a gel during high-intensity sessions. This resulted in Kris feeling comfortable consuming up to an average of 120g of carbohydrates per hour (see our nutrition tips blog, where Rebecca explains how to train the gut to increase carbohydrate intake).
An important element of Kris’ nutrition approach was using Nduranz Nrgy Unit gels that contain a mix of sugars (maltodextrin and fructose in an optimal 1:0.8 ratio). This has been shown to increase ingested carbohydrate oxidation rates, improve gut comfort, and – importantly - enhance endurance performance, relative to having a single source of sugar.
During the OCC, Kris averaged 112g of carbohydrates per hour, which was in line with the nutrition plan Rebecca had developed for him. The 45g of carbohydrates in Nduranz gels made it easy for Kris to carry with him enough for the whole race (an essential bonus, as there are no drop bags or crews allowed in OCC).
